WE ACT TODAY TO ENSURE A BETTER TOMORROW.

OUR MISSION

We are all about etics & aesthetics, making it our mission to being sexy & sustainable at the same time to ensure a more sustainable future.

Here at Undersea we focus on having a high impact on confidence, but low impact on the Planet - taking into account as many aspects as possible to preserve our environment. Inch by inch and seam by seam, we are working tirelessly and creatively to bring you beautiful pieces that are as sustainable as they are beautiful.

Our approach is to create consciously, engage in ongoing reflection and continually drive progress towards sustainability, circularity, inclusivity and transparency. As we progress down this path to sustainability, we recognise there is always more to learn, new ways to adapt and endless possibilities to evolve. We celebrate how far we have come, and we recognise how far we have to go.

We believe in progress, not perfection, because we know real change takes time. We see our journey towards sustainability as an open and honest conversation with our suppliers, retailers, and most importantly, you.

FABRICS

THE UNDERSEA STANDARD

Since 2018, each and every one of our fabrics have been made from recycled & sustainable content. This includes our printed fabrics, our custom textures and even our inner linings.

This is the UNDERSEA standard. Every piece, inside and out. No exceptions.

ECONYL® Regenerated Nylon

Synthetic waste is used such as industrial plastic, waste fabric, and fishing nets from
the oceans, which are then recycled and regenerated. So far and with your support,
our use of recycled fabrics has diverted approximately 900 KG of post-consumer
waste. Your positive impact from purchasing one swimwear: 1,5 litres water saved,
41,5 grams waste diverted, 0,4 kg CO2 emissions avoided.

100% ORGANIC COTTON

Grown without pesticides from seeds that have not been genetically modified through farming practices that avoid using harmful chemicals while aiming for environmental sustainability and the use of fewer resources.

TENCEL™ FIBERS

Helps maintain environmental balance by being integrated into nature´s cycle. The fibers originate from the renewable raw material wood, created by photosynthesis. The certified biobased fibers are manufactured using an environmentally responsible production process. The fibers are certified as compostable and biodegradable, and thus can fully revert back to nature.

PRODUCTION

Our pieces are created with quality and durability front of mind. We believe in building a circular fashion system, where products and materials are selected for their longevity, responsibility and above all quality in order to be worn for longer, re-used and re-circulated for as long as possible. We source the highest quality fabrics and use construction techniques that extend the life of each garment. Each piece is crafted from considered materials and made to last.

We don't do overproduction: only produce small stocks in our drops, practice few sales during the year which leaves us with no product leftovers or garments for distruction.

Our garments are made from innovative sustainable fabrics and require advanced technical manufacturing. We are always researching new advancements, however at this time, Hungary does not have the capability to turn raw nylon fibre into yarn, and therefore we are unable to produce our fabrics locally. We work closely alongside the leading fabric mills in Portugal, Italy and China that are at the forefront of this technology. By manufacturing in Portugal and China, in close proximity to our fabric mills, we are able to keep our supply chains as short as possible.

Recognizing the serious issues, like human rights violations and exploitation of workers in the textile industry, when looking for a manufacturer, we had strict expectations in mind. This is why we chose a privately owned company, employing 101-200 people who has several certificates by third-party auditors indicating that the social aspects of sustainability are realized, and their workers are safe and valued. Their newest report was submitted on the 6th of April 2022, which states that the factory is responsible, fair-waged, and reliable.

PACKAGES

Packaging is another important aspect of sustainability at UNDERSEA. Considering the outside as much as the inside, we only use recycled and compostable packaging throughout our supply chain. We believe all the little things make a big difference over time. We don't use swing tags at all so we can avoid producing more waste.. Our mailer bags are from recycled & recyclable plastic and our swimwear hygiene liners are made from recycled paper, making them compostable and biodegradable.

We also ensure carbon offset on all our shippings through emission friendly, green delivery choices powered by DHL.

TAKE CARE

Taking good care of your UNDERSEA pieces will extend their life, conserve natural resources and minimise the chance of your garment ending up in a textile landfill.

UNDERSEA pieces are created with the intent to be a part of your wardrobe for years to come. To ensure their longevity, we encourage thoughtful practices when caring for your pieces. Taking care of your garments will extend their life and minimise your environmental footprint. We recommend a cool hand wash with mild natural soap followed by line drying or drying flat in the shade. Avoid machine washing, tumble drying, hot water and harsh chemical detergents. As a general rule, limit washing until completely necessary. All synthetic fibres, recycled or otherwise, release tiny particles called microplastics into the waterways when washed. To minimise this, we recommend washing your swimwear in a Guppyfriend Washing Bag.

GIVING BACK

UNDERSEA was born with one of it's core values being the purpose of helping our Planet & assuring a better tomorrow for the people. We want to align our community with the ideal of a sustainable brand. We are giving back 1% from our revenue to the PLANET for a better future through the "STRIPE climate" partnership.
